What is Mastery Club? This is a club for students who are interested in achieving "above and beyond" the normal classroom expectations. It was created by a teacher named Mrs. Renz. More information can be found here. http://www.mrsrenz.net/masteryclub.htm
How does Mastery Club Work? All you do is pick and learn all you can about one of the topics. Write the problem and answers down on a sheet of paper and then give it to Mr. Shearer either during recess or before or after school. Once a student masters a topic they earn a star. Once a student earns 15 or more stars their name will be placed in the Hall of Fame in my room and remain there for as long as I continue Mastery Club.
Who can do Mastery Club? Any student in Mr. Shearer's class is invited to participate in Mastery Club, but no one has to do this. Mastery Club is an optional project.
Why do Mastery Club? Some of the topics for Mastery Club will be discussed in class throughout the year. Mastery Club gives students the opportunity to be exposed to more information and helps students to build their background knowledge on a wide variety of subjects. A broad background knowledge will help students with their learning in the future. Mastery Club also encourages learning in a positive atmosphere and gives students the opportunity to work on their research skills.
What if I don't have a computer at home? Students may request a complete list of the Mastery Club Subjects. Subjects can then be researched on the computer or in books. The best way to find information is to visit your local library. Students may also do research at school during free time if all other work is done. When can Mastery Club be worked on? Students can work on Mastery Club at home, before school, after school, or any time during school after they have completed any an all assignments or work for the day.
